Tips and Tricks for How to Find Seasonal Jobs at the Last Minute

The holiday season is almost here. You’re going to be off of school or work soon for a little break, and you realize your expenses are significantly higher this year due to a lot of reasons. Even buying gifts for your friends and family seems to hurt the wallet. You may be thinking that it’s too late to get a seasonal job to earn a little extra money over the holidays, but that’s not the case.

While it’s true that many people start looking for seasonal jobs back in September and October, that doesn’t mean you won’t be able to find any seasonal jobs in December. In fact, there are many companies who are realizing that they actually need more seasonal workers than they have hired, so they will be looking to bring on some more staff over the next couple of weeks. If you’re wondering how to find seasonal jobs at the last minutes, look no further.

Get started today

First thing’s first – you cannot waste any more time. Many companies have already hired their seasonal staff, but some are still looking to fill some spots. However, waiting a day or two – or worse, a week or two – may lead to issues down the line. Time is of the essence at this stage, so it’s important to begin your seasonal job search today.

It can be stressful when you don’t know where to look or how to apply, but this article will get you the information you need to begin. Just be sure to set aside an hour or two to begin your seasonal job search so that you can find the right role for your needs.

Know who’s hiring for seasonal jobs

Where can you get hired for a seasonal job? There are a few industries that may be looking for staff at the last minute, such as customer service and retail. Industries like warehouses and manufacturing and production plants are also among those that require lots of seasonal workers, and some will be looking to bring on additional employees in the next few days and weeks.

In the Mississauga, Brampton, Peel, and GTA region, there are tons of warehouses and manufacturing plants. While many of them hire seasonal workers starting in September, some also hire as late as December when demand tends to reach its peak. Be sure to check local warehouses and factories in your area to see if they are looking for temporary and seasonal employees.

Work with an employment agency

While many seasonal workers choose to apply directly to each individual place they want to work at, it’s not an approach that tends to work well when you don’t have a lot of time. After all, if you’re searching for last-minute seasonal jobs, you don’t want to have to spend an hour or two sending in separate applications for each position when you have the option to apply for multiple open roles in one go.

When you work with a staffing agency like Noble Human Resources Solutions, you can actually just apply once and access dozens of job postings. When you apply to Noble, our human resources specialists match your application to multiple job openings and determine which one is right for you based on your skills, experience, availability, and financial goals.

Figure out your availability – now and in the future

There are different types of seasonal jobs. Some are full-time hours for a set amount of time, some are part-time hours over the course of several weeks, and some are irregular shifts here and there during a particular season. Figure out what kind of availability you have over the holiday season. For example, do you want to work the same shift every day for a month or can you only do weekends and evenings for two weeks?

In addition to thinking short-time, also determine whether you want to continue having the seasonal job for a longer period of time. In some warehouses and factories, certain seasonal workers may be asked to come on part-time or full time for a longer period of time depending on their performance. This may work well for you if you want to continue to earn additional income after the holiday season is over.

Get your resume ready to go

Regardless of whether you apply directly to companies for seasonal work or go through an employment agency, you will need to have a resume as part of your application. Be sure to update your resume right away and include your most relevant job experience and skills based on the seasonal role you’re looking for.

If you don’t have any employment history, don’t worry. You can include volunteer experience or education instead, as well as a list of skills you bring to the table. However, you will still need to have a resume, even if this is the first job you’re applying for.

Lean on your network

Remember that your personal and professional network can be a major asset in helping you find a seasonal job. Whether it’s your family and friends, teachers or colleagues, be sure to let people know that you are in the market for a last-minute seasonal role. Ask if anyone has any insight into which companies are still hiring. You never know – someone may know of an opening that still needs to be filled.

You can ask your network in person, send out emails, or make phone calls. Offer to pass along your resume to your network in case they can pass it out to their workplaces. When you’re in a time crunch, having the help of your network can make it easier to find a seasonal job.
